This is without doubt the place that gained Malaysian diving its world-class reputation. Sipadan and the neighbouring islands of Mabul, Kapalai, Sibuan and Mantabuan offer some of the best diving in the world. Located 35km south of the coastal town of Semporna in Sabah, Sipadan lies just north of the equator in the Sulawesi Sea. It is 10km south of the continental shelf and is the peak of a volcanic base that rises steeply from depths of 600m. Sipadan's marine life is prolific; more than 200 species of fish and over 700 genera of corals. The waters teem with fish, shoals of fusiliers, batfish, sweetlips, jacks, huge schools of bumphead parrotfish and shoals of barracudas numbering in the hundreds. Whitetip Reef Sharks are common. Grey Reef, Leopard and Hammerhead Sharks are occasionally seen, as are Manta Rays and Eagle Rays. However, what makes Sipadan really stand out are the turtles. Massive 140kg Green Turtles and smaller Hawksbill Turtles are everywhere. You can often see 20 to 30 on a single dive. Diving season: Year-round Sample 5D4N itinerary Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5
